Lady Tigers fall in both games of doubleheader to Eagles

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The RV Lady Tigers hit the road this afternoon for a doubleheader against the Faulkner Lady Eagles. After a tight loss in the first game, the Lady Tigers came up short in game two, unable to secure a win as they continued their campaign in Alabama.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 2, Faulkner 3

The Campbellsville Tigers and Faulkner Eagles faced off in a closely contested game. Strong pitching and defense from both teams prevented any early scoring opportunities.

The action started in the third inning when Campbellsville took a 2-0 lead. A key single from Caroline Pitcock, along with a fly-out from Jessie Daniels, helped them take control of the scoreboard. Faulkner quickly responded, cutting the lead to 2-1 with a double to center field from Addyson Jarman and a run by Anna Segrest. Campbellsville and Faulkner continued their tight contest as the game moved into the middle innings. Campbellsville could not add to their lead. Camille Conkright singled but was caught stealing, and Korey Harris flew out, leaving the score 2-1.

Campbellsville's offense left a runner on after Rylee Warner's single and a fielder's choice that cut down the lead runner. Faulkner took the lead, 3-2, after a triple from Gracie Pittman and an RBI single from Madelyn Becker, leaving two runners on base. Campbellsville put two on with walks and singles but could not capitalize, leaving two on base. Faulkner threatened again but could not add runs to their lead, leaving one player on base. Campbellsville got a runner on with a single from Emily Reynolds but could not achieve the run, keeping the score 3-2. Faulkner held their lead by maintaining a strong defense to secure the victory.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 12, Faulkner 16

Compared to the first game, the second was much more competitive, with both teams quickly putting runs on the board right from the start. Campbellsville jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run single from Selynna Metcalfe, while Harris stole a base and advanced on an error. Despite loading the bases, they could not add more runs, and Faulkner tied it up 2-2 in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to a two-run homer from Jarman.

The Lady Tigers capitalized on key hits, including a three-run homer from Rylee Warner, bringing the score to 6-2. Faulkner responded in the bottom of the second, adding four runs of their own, including a double and a couple of timely singles, to tie the game at 6-6. Warner went deep again in the top of the third, granting a grand slam and leading the scoreboard 10-6. From there, Faulkner surged ahead in the bottom of the third, including some hits and a two-run homer from Pittman, to make it 13-10. Campbellsville continued to battle, but Faulkner's offensive momentum kept them ahead. Despite a late push from Campbellsville in the sixth inning, Faulkner secured the 16-12 victory, with Campbellsville unable to take advantage in their final player's battings.

The Lady Tigers continue their Alabama campaign at the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores, Alabama, on Friday, March 7. They will face off against Texas A&M-Texarkana and Middle Georgia State University.

  • For game one, Faulkner and Campbellsville had similar hit totals, but Faulkner made the most of their opportunities, scoring three runs compared to Campbellsville's two. Faulkner struck out five times, while Campbellsville only had three strikeouts. Both teams stole one base and committed one error, but Faulkner's timely hitting and baserunning helped them secure the win.
  • In game two, Campbellsville's offense was powered by Warner, who had 7 RBIs and hit a grand slam. The team had 12 hits, with key contributions from Metcalfe and Daniels.
  • Campbellsville and Faulkner have a history of close matchups at neutral sites. Their last game before today's doubleheader occurred on March 6, 2020, when Campbellsville secured a narrow 6-5 victory.
