Pitcock's walk-off triple, 6 RBIs highlight Lady Tigers' doubleheader split with Shawnee State

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The (RV) Lady Tigers hosted the Shawnee State University Bears on Saturday for a doubleheader home opener. Campbellsville finished their first day at home with a hard-fought loss and a dominant run-rule win against Shawnee State.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 9, Shawnee State 13
The first inning saw little action, with each team collecting a hit but unable to score.

The Bears jumped ahead in the top of the second inning, collecting four runs off two doubles and a sacrifice fly. The Lady Tigers scored their first run in the bottom half of the frame when Hannah Hackworth tripled to right center and Macy McCoy brought her across the plate with an RBI groundout to second base.

The third inning was highlighted by a solo home run to left-center by Caroline Pitcock. However, the Bears' momentum strengthened in the fourth inning, racking up four more runs on a triple, two doubles, and a single to make it 8-2.

Lydia Jones chipped away at Campbellsville's deficit in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run to left field, bringing Hackworth across the plate with her.

Shawnee State collected their first homer of the day during the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 9-4. The Lady Tigers immediately answered with a massive five-run bottom of the sixth to tie the game. Pitcock drew a bases-loaded walk to score McCoy, and Jessie Daniels added an RBI groundout. Back-to-back doubles by Karleigh Walker and Rylee Warner cleared the bases and tied the score at nine.

The Bears regained control at the top of the seventh, collecting three hits and a home run to secure a four-run lead. Despite earning a free base in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Tigers were put away before being able to retaliate.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 12, Shawnee State 3
Shawnee State scored their first run with an RBI single up the middle in the top of the first. Campbellsville answered emphatically in the bottom half of the inning. Walker smashed a two-run homer to left field, and Hackworth and McCoy followed up with an RBI single and an RBI double, respectively, to give the Lady Tigers an early 4-1 lead.

The contest settled down until the bottom of the third when Hackworth launched a solo home run to center field.

The Lady Tigers expanded their lead to six runs in the fourth inning after an RBI double to right-center from Pitcock and an RBI groundout by Daniels. The fifth inning was the Bears' final opportunity to score, as they collected two runs on a double.

Campbellsville closed the game early with a five-run bottom of the sixth. After Daniels scored on a wild pitch and Korey Harris delivered an RBI single, Pitcock stepped to the plate and ripped a walk-off, three-run triple. The hit brought Harris, McCoy, and Jones home, enacting the run rule with a nine-run advantage to secure the 12-3 victory.
