Anthony Thompson was hired as an assistant track and field coach under the leadership of head coach Mark Miller in the summer of 2019.
Thompson, a four-time NAIA All-American and 10-time All-Conference performer, graduated for the Blue Raiders in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Studies and Journalism and minor in communications and public relations.
As a student-athlete, Thompson earned All-American honors in the 2016 indoor and outdoor triple jump while also picking up outdoor honors for the same event in 2017 and 2018.
In the 2018-19 season, Thompson had his first experience as an assistant coach for Lindsey Wilson. While with the Blue Raiders, he helped lead them to 15 All-Conference honors for indoor track and field and five student-athletes qualified for the NAIA Indoor National Championships in men's and women's long and triple jump – which are his main events of expertise.
Thompson was also a part of the women's program earning the MSC Championship title and the men placing second during the indoor season. As a team, the men's program finished fourth at the NAIA Indoor Championship.
In the outdoor season, Thompson coaches 17 all-conference student-athletes and six NAIA Championship qualifiers – one of those finishing runner-up.
In addition to his academic and athletic responsibilities, Thompson was also the President of the Black Student Union and SAAC Clubs. He also served as the editor of the student newspaper.
Thompson coaches the sprints, relays, and jumps in his daily practice duties. He has coached seven Mid-South Conference Champions, eight NAIA All-Americans, 31 NCCAA National Champions, and 74 NCCAA All-Americans,
