Macarena Acuña finished her second season as the head coach of the Lady Tigers Tennis program. She finished the 2021-22 season with an 18-6 record and 8-1 conference record. Acuña was named NCCAA Coach of the Year, and led the Lady Tigers to their first national championship victory in program history.
Macarena Acuña was named the women's tennis head coach at CU in August of 2020 as she was elevated from the assistant for both men's and women's tennis programs to lead the Lady Tigers starting in 2020-21.
In her first season leading Lady Tiger tennis, Acuña led CU to a 16-5 overall record in duals play with an 8-2 record in the Mid-South Conference to finish in third place in the conference regular season standings. The women's tennis team also earned an at-large bid into the NAIA Championship for the first time since 2017 as the team was led by five All-MSC selections in Brenda Aguilar, Itzel Hernandez, Angela Mendoza, Rebeca Scurt, and Madison Hill.
Acuña oringinally came to Campbellsville as the graduate assistant coach for both men's and women's tennis under
Kyle Caven starting in 2018-19 before serving as the full-time assistant in 2019-20. In the last two seasons, the men's and women's tennis teams combined for 37 team wins in dual matches as well as an NCCAA National Championship and NAIA Tournament berth for the men's team in 2018-19.
Prior to her coaching career, Acuña starred for the University of Pikeville women's tennis team, earning All Mid-South Conference honors in all three of her seasons as a Bear. She was a first team selection both in 2015 and 2016 and a second team honoree in her senior year of 2017.
The Buenos Aires, Argentina native also competed as a professional from the ages of 17-21 in Argentina before moving to the United States to compete at the collegiate level.
