Henderson named men's MSC Player of the Year

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Cedric Henderson, Campbelsville University's superb point guard, was named the Mid-South Conference's Player of the Year at a Wednesday night banquet at the Center for Kentucky History.

"I've made the comment that he's the best point guard in the nation," said his coach, Keith Adkins. "And, I think the coaches have validated that statement."

Henderson led the MSC in steals per game (4.0) and assists (6.5) while finishing tied for third in the conference in scoring (16.4) entering postseason play. His steals and assist totals ranked second and fifth in the NAIA respectively.

"His stats were unreal," continued Adkins. "I think the coaches took into consideration what he meant to our team. He's our MVP and now he's the conference's as well."

Henderson was also named First Team All Conference and joined Justin Ennis, Second Team All Conference; and Jordan Myers, Academic All Conference, as CU student/athletes who were honored. Ennis also garnered the academic honor.

Henderson, a senior, is going to be hard to replace, according to Adkins.

"When you can get a good one, you go after him," said Adkins. "He's going to be hard to replace, but when we go out on the recruiting trail maybe others will see the success he had and will decide to come  to Campbellsville."

Joining Henderson on the all-conference team is University of the Cumberlands' Matt Daniel and Zavion Neely; Georgetown College's Maurice Pearson; Lindsey Wilson College's Kalen Kimberland and Chase Spreen; University of Pikeville's Chris McHenry and Trevor Setty; St. Catharine College's Brandon Johnson; and UVa.-Wise's Travis Berry.

University of Rio Grande's Evan Legg was named the MSC Freshman of the Year after averaging 4.4 points and shooting 39.3 percent from three-point range.

Shawnee State University's Tyler Morgan was named the Champions of Character recipient. Morgan earned the award -- as voted on by the conference athletics directors - for his civic and servant leadership within the campus and community.

Lindsey Wilson's Paul Peck was selected by their peers as MSC Coach of the Year after leading the Blue Raiders to the program's first out-right MSC regular season title with a 12-4 conference record.
Ten players earned second team all-conference for their play during the season.

Joining Ennis on the Second Team were: Georgetown's Garel Craig, Jordan DeMercy and Johonne Hamilton; Rio Grande's Shaun Gunnell and Jermaine Warmack; Shawnee State's Morgan and Mark Bryant; St. Catharine's Travis Wilkins; and UVa.-Wise's Josh Jordan were selected to the conference's second team.

Seventeen student-athletes earned academic all-conference for maintaining at least a 3.25 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and being a sophomore or higher standing.

Joining Ennis and Jordan Myers were: Cumberlands' Daniel; Georgetown's Russ Middleton; Lindsey Wilson's Spreen and Darren Ballou; Pikeville's Chris Watson and Josh Whitaker; Shawnee State's Morgan, Tyler Boyles, Alex Bruns and Jared Quinlan; St. Catharine's Fateen Belfield, Stefan Pope and Dominique Roy; and UVa.-Wise's Berry and Jordan earned academic all-conference.

Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson plays No. 9-seed Rio Grande at 2 p.m. ET and No. 4-seed Pikeville plays fifth-seeded Cumberlands at 4 p.m. ET.
