Aisena and Gregory chosen for volleyball awards

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Rinata Aisena and Assistant Coach Billy Gregory have been chosen for post-season volleyball awards league officials announced today. Aisena was chosen by the NCCAA as a First Team All-American and honorable mention by the NAIA and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Gregory was chosen as the AVCA Assistant Coach of the Year.

Aisena has had quite the career at Campbellsville. The junior college transfer from Riga, Latvia came to CU looking to fill some holes in the Lady Tigers front line and welcomed the challenge.

2013 was her best year offensively as the senior recorded 550 kills and 130 total blocks.

Aisena was chosen, a Mid-South Conference leading four times, MSC Player of the Week. September 23; September 30; November 4 and November 11.

She recorded career highs twice in 2013 as she finished matches with 23 kills against Trinity Christian and St. Catharine College.

The senior also recorded a career high four aces against Shawnee State back on September 10th.

Aisena finished the 2013 season ranked No. 5 in NAIA with kills (550) and No. 18 in Kill per Game (3.85).

Aisena was also a two-time Mid-South Conference First Team selection, NCCAA Scholar Athlete and is receiving All-American honors for the first time.

"It has been a great honor to coach Rinata," said Head Coach Amy Zink. "She is such a unique, compassionate person and a very talented athlete."

Gregory is in his 12th season at Campbellsville, fourth as an assistant under Amy Zink and has been the head coach twice, 1993-1994 and 2002-2004.

During his time under Zink (2010-present), the Lady Tigers have won 115 matches compared to 40 losses.

The coaching duo goes way back though as Gregory was the one who recruited Zink to play at Campbellsville in 2004. During their first year together, Gregory coached the Libero and helped her kick-start her phenomenal career that led to being the Libero ever chosen for All-American status.

"Billy is an excellent assistant coach," said Zink. "He works well with the girls and provides, emotion, inspiration and knowledge that helps them all succeed on and off the court."
