KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the second straight year a Campbellsville University forward has been named an NAIA Men's Soccer All-America Honorable Mention, the national office announced Monday.
Junior forward Marcelo Petit, who was named the Mid-South Conference Co-Player of the Year in November, is one of four MSC players to be named an All-America Honorable Mention – the only MSC players to earn NAIA postseason recognition.
"Cholo (Petit) is extremely talented but is also one of the most passionate, hardest-working guys I have ever coached. This award and the others that will come as we move forward together are a true testament to what can be accomplished when talent and dedication are both in place," CU Head Coach Adam Preston said.
Petit is only the third CU player to receive NAIA postseason recognition since Preston took over the program in 2002. Goalkeeper Aaron Harkins received the honor in 2002 and Roraigh Yearwood did in 2013.
Petit finished the season ranked No. 6 in the NAIA with 22 goals scored and ninth for goals per game (1.160). He had five game-winning goals during the season and led the team with 71 shots, including 43 on goal.
St. Catharine College forward Ashley Woods, who was also named MSC Co-Player of the Year, was also named NAIA All-America Honorable Mention, as were Lindsey Wilson College's Renan Serafim and Tom Moody.
