BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Daniel Nimmo captured Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Co-Player of the Year honors, the conference office announced at its annual banquet on Wednesday night at the National Corvette Museum.
Nimmo shared the conference player of the year honor with Lindsey Wilson College's Tyler Collishaw. Nimmo becomes the third Tiger in program history to be named the MSC Player of the Year after Roraigh Yearwood won the award in 2013 and Marcelo Petit earned the recognition in 2014.
During the season, Nimmo anchored the Campbellsville backline and as a team the Tigers compiled nine shutouts, which ranks fifth in the nation. Campbellsville also averages 0.6 shutouts a game, which is the second-best in the NAIA.
"Nimmo is an outstanding player and has shown that over the past three years," said head coach of the Tigers
Adam Preston." It is very easy to overlook defenders when looking at the bigger picture of a match. It is a testament to his quality that he has been recognized for this award. He would be the first to tell you how important his teammates are and that true defensive success comes from a cohesive and well led group.
"He [Nimmo] has been the foundation of this group and stepped up consistently. He has worked incredibly hard and dedicated himself year-round to becoming the best player he can possibly be, the best version of himself. I still think he has a lot of room to grow and I'm excited to see that happen. I am immensely proud of this young man and grateful for all he has given to the team."
Along with Nimmo being named the MSC Co-Player of the Year, he and five other Tigers were selected to the All Mid-South Conference First Team.
Andreas Nota is one of two goalkeepers on the first team, while Nimmo and
Nathan Heath are two of four defenders. Nota is fifth in the conference with 51 saves and has a .97 goals against average, which is third in the MSC. Along with captaining the Tigers, Nimmo has two goals and an assist on the season and Heath is second on the team with nine goals and 20 points.
Thomas Edge is the lone Campbellsville midfielder on the first team after recording one goal and an assist during his first collegiate season.
Rounding out the first team honorees for the Tigers is
Ignacio Mangada and
Yudai Yamauchi. Mangada – who was the MSC Freshman of the Year last season – leads Campbellsville with 12 goals and 27 points, while Yamauchi is second on the team with four assists and third in goals (6) and points (16).
Nimmo earns his third-straight first team recognition, while Mangada repeats as a first team honoree. Nota, Heath, Edge and Yamauchi all earned first team selections for the first time in their careers.
Campbellsville also placed four players on the All Mid-South Conference Second Team.
Rickard Hallin,
Cameron Badenhorst,
Mark Callaghan and
Sam Wills all were selected to the second team and earned conference honors for the first time in their careers.
Rounding out the individual awards was Tyler Watson of Cumberland University who was named MSC Freshman of the Year, while Adam Grant of Cumberland and Lindsey Wilson's Ray Wells were MSC Co-Coaches of the Year. Finally, Nicklas Nanke of University of the Cumberlands was named the MSC Champions of Character, where Hallin was also nominated for the award.
The conference also recognized their academic award winners, which were released earlier today, and its MSC Players of the Week.
