Abolina earns Second-Team NAIA Volleyball All-American honors to cap stellar career

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its 2017 women's volleyball All-Americans on Tuesday and Campbellsville's Annija Abolina earned Second-Team honors.

This is the second straight season Abolina has earned NAIA All-American honors after being named Honorable Mention last year.

Abolina, who earned AVCA Southeast Regional Team and NCCAA All-American honors earlier this week, finished her senior season with a team-high 438 kills and was third on the team with 57 service aces and 85 blocks.

This year alone, Abolina finished with a season-high 24 kills vs. University of the Cumberlands (twice) and six blocks vs. Emmanuel College in the NCCAA Semifinal match. She finished the NCCAA Tournament with double figure kills in all but one match and totaled 74 kills in the six combined matches.

Abolina completed her career with impressive numbers that will live in the Lady Tiger record books for years to come. Her 1,530 kills ranks No. 3 in CU history behind Molly Hall's 1,540 and Shannon Cahill's 1,740. She also finished with 234 blocks and 694 digs.

Campbellsville finished the season with a 31-10 record and earned its first trip to the NAIA Tournament since 2007 and played to another NCCAA runner-up finish – the third in program history.

In addition to Abolina, Lindsey Wilson's Makenzie Montano earned Player of the Year honors and was the lone Mid-South representative to earn First-Team honors. On the second team, Abolina was joined by Lindsey Wilson's Grace Blomstedt and Paulina Sobolewska.
