Gailor tosses gem in opening round of MSC Tournament; Lady Tigers to play again Friday evening

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — A two-hour rain delay couldn't hold down No. 1-seeded Campbellsville in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament, as the fourth-ranked Lady Tigers defeated Kentucky Christian 8-1.

Campbellsville improves to 42-8 overall and will play the winner of four-seeded Shawnee State and five-seeded Cumberland University. First pitch is approximately at 5:30 p.m. ET. Fans can tune into the broadcast on the CU Sports Network starting at 5:15.

Second Team All-MSC pitcher Morgan Gailor hurled a gem in the circle to improve her record to 16-6. She allowed four hits and an earned run while striking out five and not allowing a walk.

Rebecca Miller led CU with two hits each, including an RBI triple in the fifth inning. Eight of the nine Lady Tigers in the lineup tallied a hit as well.

CU struck first with a pair of runs in the first and second inning each. It all started with a leadoff hit by pitch to Jacqueline Roof and sac bunt by Miller. Ryley Whitney then doubled to center field to score CU's first run and Brianna Scott followed with an RBI single to left scoring Whitney.

In the second inning, Roof drove in her first run with a sac fly to score Kelly Wheeler. Dana Adkins also scored on that play after an error by KCU's Kayla House.

The Knights (13-33) scored their only run on a misunderstanding on a first-and-third defensive play by CU.

In the fifth, the Lady Tigers got that run right back as Miller delivered an RBI triple to center to score Adkins, who walked to lead off the frame.

The Lady Tigers broke it open in the sixth with three runs. Adkins delivered a suicide squeeze bunt to score Jordan Ison and Roof cleared the bases with a two-run triple to put Campbellsville ahead, 8-1.

Cartney Schoolcraft (10-15) started in the circle for the Knights and lasted only two innings and allowed three earned runs. McKenzie Tyler tossed four innings and allowed four runs in relief.
