Tiger Football Grabs First Home Win In Perry Thomas Era With 35-33 Victory Over Belhaven

Campbellsville won its first home football game since November of 2006 with a 35-33 victory today over Belhaven College.
 
Belhaven jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the Tigers were able score on a five-yard pass from Ross Deaton to David Mason with :11 remaining in the first half of play.  David Hon's extra point made it 14-7 at the halftime break.
 
Campbellsville came out in the third period like a freight train both offensively and defensively.  The Tigers stopped Belhaven on their first possession of the half and then Greg Fountain rumbled into the end-zone on a 43 yard touchdown run at the 13:41 mark.  Hon's PAT tied the game at 14-14.
 
On the next Belhaven series, the Tigers again forced the Blazers into a three and out possession and took only :40 seconds to take the lead when Sean Thompson scored on a 62-yard pass reception from Deaton.  Hon's PAT made it 21-14 and the Tigers led for the first time in the game.
 
Belhaven would knot the game up with 6:07 to play in the third quarter when Shaun Ector caught a 9-yard pass from Jerred Wallace and Justin Miller kicked the ball through the uprights on the point after attempt to tie it at 21-21.
 
Again the Tigers would rally on a 9 play, 48 yard scoring drive in only 1:46 to regain the lead when Fountain scored his second touchdown of the day on a one-yard blast with 14:04 remaining in the fourth quarter.  Hon connected on his fourth PAT and the TIgers led 28-21.
 
But Belhaven wouldn't die. The Blazers turned right around and drove the ball some 73 yards down the field on their next possession and scored ona  36-yard pass with 12:34 to play to make it 28-27.  But a key play occured when Justin Miller's kick went wide right and the Tigers held the lead.
 
Campbellsville would score again with 8:05 to play  when Wayne Coffee grabbed a five-yard pass in the end zone from Deaton to cap an 11 play, 70-yard drive and Hon's fitth successful PAT of the day gave the Tigers a 35-27 lead.
 
Again the Blazers answered with a drive that took nearly six minutes off the clock and covered 60-yards when Damian Davis scored from two yards out.  Down by two, 35-33 with 2:14 to play, the Belhaven's two point conversion was unsuccessful and the Tigers were able to run out the clock to get their second win of the year.
 
Campbellsville's Fountain had 30 carries and 197 yards rushing and two touchdowns while Deaton was 11 of 23 with one interception and 197 yards to go with three touchdowns int he air.
 
Campbellsville improves to 2-5 on the season while Belhaven falls to 2-5.  The Tigers travel to Georgetown in a battle of MSC East Division foes next Saturday with kick-off set for 1:30 p.m.
