Box Score For the third straight week,
Perry Thomas' Campbellsville Tiger Football team fought hard to come from behind only to see a game slip away by a touchdown.
Â
Today, in Barbourville, the Tigers trailed 28-10 at the end of the third quarter. Union tacked on a field goal at the beginning of the fourth period to lead 31-10 and then, in almost typical fashion, the Tigers began to roar.
Â
On the next possession, Campbellsville used a 10 play, 71-yard scoring drive that was capped by a
David Mason five yard pass reception from
Ross Deaton.Â
David Hon nailed the PAT kick and the Tigers were down 31-17.   Following the kickoff and on the Bulldogs next possession,
Jacob Wallace picked up a Union fumble and ran it back 55 yards to score. Hon's PAT kick made it 31-24.
Â
Campbellsville held Union on a first and goal from the one yard line and forced the Bulldogs, ranked 12th in the NAIA, to attempt a short field goal. However the kicked sailed right and the Tigers took over on downs with under two minutes to play.
Â
The scenario, almost identical to two weeks ago at Georgetown and last week versus Cumberlands, put the Tigers in a position to tie or win the game with a touchdown and successful PAT. However the Union defense held and Campbellsville fell to 2-8 on the season.
Â
All-American candidate
Greg Fountain had 24 carries for 136 yards while quarterback
Ross Deaton was 21 of 44 with 2 interceptions for 278 yards and two touchdowns.
Â
Campbellsville closes the season on Saturday by hosting Pikeville. The game time has been changed and will start at 2:00 p.m.
