Campbellsville University's hopes of a shared Mid-South Conference championship were shattered Monday, as Georgetown College handed the Lady Tigers a 3-0 loss (25-14, 25-13, 25-16) in the CU Powell Athletic Center.
The CU Lady Tigers' chances to lead were few and short, as they took a 6-4 lead in the third set off two aces from
Jovana Koprivicia. However, Georgetown quickly answered to regain the lead and pull away, going on a 7-2 run to end the match.
Renee Netherton led CU with seven kills and three blocks, while
Shannon Cahill and Brook Marcum had six and five kills, respectively. Caitlin Dressing led the CU defense with 16 digs and Koprivicia had 12.
Caroline Martin had 21 assists.
Georgetown was led by 14 kills, 14 digs and two aces by Eric Janszen, while Kristy Hock and Alexandra Bertke each had eight kills. Bertke also had 11 digs and two blocks. Amanda Philpot had 30 assists.
The loss snapped a six-match win streak for CU this season and an 11-match home win streak dating back to Oct. 18, 2008.
CU (23-8, 9-2 MSC) travels to Pikeville College on Tuesday.
