Box Score Ramiro Sanchez and
Emmanuel Nfor each scored goals as Campbellsville University slipped by St. Catharine 2-1 at home Thursday afternoon.
If at all possible, Sanchez may have stolen a page from the playbook of University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari's dribble-drive offense.
After a scoreless first half, Sanchez netted a ball after weaving his way through three defenders to put CU up 1-0 at the 34:05 mark of the second half.
"He recognized a weakness in their defense and used his individual skills to score," said coach
Adam Preston.
Preston gave credit to St. Catharine, however, because the Tigers had 10 more shots on goal than the Patriots. The big reason may have been St. Catharine goalie William Johnston's 13 saves.
SCC's Patrick Williams knotted the score on a header at the 29:40 mark. That led to Nfor's game-winner off a goalie deflection with just over four minutes in the game.
"We had a ton of chances," said Preston, whose team won its third straight and improved to 6-7-2 (3-2 MSC).
St. Catharine's record dipped to 6-5 (0-3 MSC).
Campbellsville plays it's last home match at 3:00 on Thursday, Oct. 29 when West Virginia Tech comes to town.
