After falling behind by two sets, Campbellsville University rallied strong to beat Cumberland University, 3-2, in Lebanon, Tenn., Friday night.
The Lady Tigers were beat by a total of 14 points in the first two sets (25-19, 25-17) to Cumberland, but jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the third set. Four kills by
Whitney Haynes and two aces by
Caroline Martin helped set the tone of the set and the remainder of the match. CU won the last three sets 25-16, 25-22 and 15-8 to improve to 26-8 on the year.
Haynes finished with 12 kills in the match, while
Brooke Marcum added 15 and
Shannon Cahill led Campbellsville with 17. Both Marcum and Cahill past Haynes' total during the end of the fourth set and en route to match point in the fifth set. Cahill and Marcum each had three kills in the final set, a 15-8 win.
Martin finished with 54 assists for the Lady Tigers. Caitlin Dressing led the CU defense with 26 digs, while Cahill had 19, Martin 12 and
Jovana Koprivicia had 11.
CU hosts the University of the Cumberlands Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
