Campbellsville University may have just beaten the University of the Cumberlands 3-0 to run its record to 27-8 (12-2 MSC), but CU volleyball coach
Randy LeBleu was not pleased.
"We've played like this the last four matches," offered LeBleu. "We're on a negative slide and I don't know if we can get back to our peak."
What concerned LeBleu the most was his squad's seemingly going-through-the-motions second game when the Lady Tigers had to rally from a 20-13 deficit and fend off two game points to finally win 28-26.
Campbellsville won the first game 25-21 but was in some serious trouble in the second game until Christina Sindelar served the last three game points. A
Renee Netherton kill brought CU to within 23-22 and
Shannon Cahill's tip at the net tied the score at 23-all.
Caroline Martin saved one game point before Sindelar served out the game.
Game three was won 24-18, again as Sindelar served four straight points. A Netherton kill gave CU an 18-11 working margin and Cumberlands could never get any closer than six points.
Netherton and Cahill had 12 and 11 kills, respectively;
Caroline Martin and
Lilian DaSilva had 22 and 13 assists, respectively; and
Caitlin Dresing and
Whitney Haynes had 18 and 14 digs, respectively.
Cumberlands' record slipped to 15-17 (7-5 MSC).
Campbellsville will play in Georgetown this weekend in the Boneyard Brawl before hosting Indian University Southeast in the Lady Tigers last home match in preparation for the start of the Mid-South Conference Tournament Nov. 10-11 in Frankfort.
