Campbellsville looked to be in control of its first-round match against St. Catharine in the Mid-South Tournament held in Frankfort. The Lady Tigers won the first two games 25-13 and 25-17. But that's when CU started going through the motions.
Campbellsville won in straight games, but had to rally to beat St. Catharine in the final 30-28.
"That sounds like our whole season," said coach
Randy LeBleu. "We get a little ahead and then put it on cruise control."
Led by
Shannon Cahill (16) and
Renee Netherton's (11) kills, the Lady Tigers carved up the Lady Patriots in games one and two.
CU (29-12) won six consecutive points in the third to lead 10-4, but then the bottom fell out of Campbellsville's game.
St. Catharine inched its way back into the match and went ahead 21-24 and had two game points before Netherton spiked two kills to save the day, her last giving CU a 28-27 advantage.
Caitlin Dresing and Jovana Koprivica had 14 digs for the Lady Tigers and
Caroline Martin and
Lilian DaSilva had 21 and 15 assists, respectively.
"We feel and little adversity and we tighten up," bemoaned LeBleu. "We've got some girls who don't accept some decision and don't carry their practices to the games."
Campbellsville plays Rio Grande, a 3-1 winner over Pikeville, at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
