Campbellsville University volleyball advanced to the NCCAA Mid-East Region Final on Saturday with a win over Oakland City University (27-25, 25-20, 25-9). The Lady Tigers (31-13) meet either Bryan College or King College in the final at 4 p.m.
Campbellsville took a 3-0 lead in the first set and held at least a two-point advantage most of the way until the Lady Oaks began matching them point-for-point toward the end. Tied, 25-25, a service error by OCU's Glenna Jolliff gave Campbellsville the advantage and Caroline Martin secured the first set, 27-25, with a tip.
In the second set, the Lady Oaks overcame a three-point deficit, 5-2, again in the second set to take its first lead of the match, 6-5. CU built its lead up to as many as four points, 12-8, before Oakland City cut into it again to pull even, 15-15. Martin served four points, including an ace, during a 5-0 run by CU to retake the lead, 20-15. The Lady Tigers maintained that margin to a 25-20 win.
CU took a 12-3 lead early in the third set and held on for a 25-9 win. Samantha James collected all six of her kills in the third set.
Shannon Cahill and Christiana Sindelar each had seven kills in the match, while Brooke Marcum and Renee Netherton had five each. Martin finished with two aces, 29 set assists and 14 digs. James also had two aces. Cahill led the defense with 20 digs, while Whitney Haynes had 13 digs and Netherton had 10. Caitlin Dresing and Jovana Koprivica each had eight. Koprivicia, Netherton and Sindelar each had an ace.
