Lady Tigers honor seniors with win

Campbellsville University closed out its volleyball regular season with a 3-0 victory at home Tuesday, bouncing back from a four-match skid over the weekend. The Lady Tigers beat Indiana University Southeast for the second time this season (25-18, 25-14, 25-21), two months to the date of their first win over IUS.

After winning the first set, Campbellsville trailed IUS to start the second set. Sophomore Shannon Cahill of Louisville served nine straight-points that helped turn a 9-7 deficit into a 17-7 lead en route to the 25-14 win. Her one ace came early in the run, giving CU the lead, 10-9. She went on to collect a game-high nine kills and 18 digs. The Lady Tigers were tied, 19-19, late in the third set, but pulled away for the 4-point win.

Prior to the game, Campbellsville's three seniors Whitney Haynes, Jovana Koprivica and Renee Netherton were recognized for their four years on the team.

"It's great to see those four-year players end their last home game with a win. All three played well," CU head coach Randy LeBleu said. "These three are my first recruiting class. I'm happy to have been able to see them through to graduation this year."

The three seniors have helped turn the CU volleyball program around, going undefeated in the Mid-South Conference play and winning the MSC title as freshmen in 2006. They trio repeated the MSC title the next year and helped CU to its first NAIA National Tournament appearance. Three are some of the only Lady Tiger volleyball players to ever beat rival, and this year's MSC leader, Georgetown College.

Campbellsville (28-12) enters the Mid-South Conference Tournament in Frankfort on Nov. 10 as the No. 2 seed. The Lady Tigers face St. Catharine College in the first round at 1 p.m. Nov. 10. The winner will advance to the semifinal Nov. 11 at 1 p.m., followed by the championship at 6 p.m.
