The windchill that blew through Campbellsville on Thursday did nothing
to cool
Ginger Colvin's Lady Tigers as her 10th-ranked team drubbed
Midway 115-50.
"We wanted to work on a few new sets and our half-court man-to-man, and
we got that done," said Colvin after the game. "We hoped to get some of
our reserves some playing time and we did that too."
Everyone on the CU roster scored, led in double figures by Melly
Heaton's 17. She was 4 of 5 from beyond the arc.
Courtney Danis and
Corin Dunn each had 12 points apiece, while
Kristi Ensminger had 11 and
Whitney Ballinger had 10.
Campbellsville, after a slow start, led 54-18 (its largest margin of the half) at the intermission and nothing Midway could do in the second half seemed to stem the tide. The Lady Tigers built their lead after trailing 3-2 early and went on runs of 13-0, and 12-0 en-route to a 33-point lead with five minutes to go in the first half.
In the second half Campbellsville canned nine 3-pointers and as a team the Lady Tigers drilled 12 of 22. Their shooting percentages from the field and 3-point range were virtually the same - .530 and .545, respectively.
"We really didn't expect to score that many points,' said Colvin, "But you can't ask your kids not to score. All our shots came out of our offensive sets.
Midway (3-10) committed 21 turnovers in the first half and after the 15-minute break, committed 11 more. The Lady Tigers out-rebounded Midway 50-30.
The Lady Tigers play King College Saturday at 4 p.m. in the second of a four-game homestand.
