Campbellsville, Kentucky
Â
Head Coach
Shannon Wathen and gang couldn't be any happier with the start of the 2009 Campbellsville Univesrity Softball season. Off to a hot start overall, the Tigers are following the same trend in Mid-South Conference play. With their double header sweep of Lindsey Wilson, the Lady Tigers are now 12-4 overall, and they are 5-1 in conference play. On top of that, the Lady Tigers have won five straight games.
Â
Yesterday's games were a thriller, as the Tigers took down the Blue Raiders twice, the first game being an extra inning affair where the Tigers won 6-5 in ten innings, before winning the nightcap 7-5.
Â
In game one of the double header, the game was tied 3-3 in the seventh inning and the Tigers had their backs against the wall.  Lindsey went up 4-3 in the top half of the inning. Needing to score a run to keep the game going, the Tigers answered the call.  In their last at bat, the Tigers mustered up a run thanks to a
Jessica Gunby single that plated
Jennifer England.
Â
The two teams were locking horns until the tenth inning when Campbellsville would put Lindsey away for good.  Jennifer led off the inning with double and then advanced to third on Alex Jane's sacrafice fly that was executed perfectly. With a runner on third and one out, the table was set for
Jessica Gunby and she did exactly what the team needed. She slapped a ground ball to the second baseman for Lindsey, but the ball was placed in no man's land. There was no play to be made, and the Tigers won the thriller in walk off fashion 6-5. In the circle for the Tigers was
Allison Horton, who went the distance, while punching out 6 Blue Raider Hitters.
Â
In game two, the Tigers used a plethora of offense and pitching to complete the sweep.Â
Cassidy Kroeker pitched for the Tigers and picked up the win. Kroeker went the distance and struck out five hitters. With the win, she goes to 5-0 on the season. Other contributor was
Morgan Bullock who blasted her first homerun of the season.
Â
With the win, the Tigers move to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in conference. They will travel to Pikeville on Friday to resume conference play.
