Campbellsville University's women shot a team-total 338 in the first round of the 36-hole Lindsey Wilson Fall Invitational Monday at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson. The Lady Tigers trailed the host team and tournament leader by 31 strokes.
Five teams teed it up for the first golf tournament of the season. Lindsey led University of the Cumberlands by four shots, 307 to 311. Lee University was 10 strokes clear of fourth-place Campbellsville with a 328. St. Catharine was in fifth place with a team total of 407.
University of the Cumberlands' McKenzie Price was first-day medalist with a 71. But Lindsey's top four golfers all broke 80, with Chelsey Key firing a 73.
Campbellsville was led by Kaela Smith (82). Shelly Minix and Amy Cline had 85s and Cheris Evans carded an 86. Lauren Goodin's 88 did not count in the team total.
The Lady Tigers will try to improve their place in the five-team field with the second round slated for Tuesday.
