Campbellsville University's women's golfers improved 16 strokes over their first-day total of 338, but could not make up enough ground and maintained their fourth-place spot in the five-team Lindsey Wilson Fall Invitational.
The Lady Tigers were just one stroke off a school record of 321, led by the two-day total of 157 (82-75) by Kaela Smith. Smith's effort was good enough for a seventh-place finish overall.
"Today they played the way I know they can," said coach Lindsay Hines. "And there were strokes still left on the course, so I only expect them to get better."
Lindsey Wilson won the tournament by three shots 607-610 over University of the Cumberlands.
Lee University shot a second-day total of 321,11 shots clear overall of Campbellsville. St. Catharine College was fifth with a two-day total of 822.
Lindsey's Chelsey Key fired a second-day 68 to squeeze past Cumberlands' McKinzie Price for medalist honors - 141 to 145. Key's three-under 141 was four shots better than the runner-up.
Other second day scores for CU included: Amy Cline 81 (166), Lauren Goodin 82 (166) and Cheris Evans 84 (171). The top four CU golfers were an average of five strokes better the second day.
The women are back in action Sept. 10-11 at the University of the Cumberlands' Invitational at Crooked Creek Golf Course in London, Ky.
