CU women in third place after first round

Kaela Smith's three-over-par 76 led Campbellsville University's women's golfers to the third spot after 18 holes in a six-team field Thursday in London, Ky.


Smith, a junior from Elizabethtown, Ky., had nines of 39 and 37.

The Lady Tigers, playing in the Bill Sergent Invitational at Crooked Creek Country Club, fired a team-total 336 and trailed tournament leader Lindsey Wilson by 21 strokes and the University of the Cumberlands by 19.

Campbellsville got an 84 (42-42) out of Katie White, an individual whose score did not count in the team total.

Lauren Goodin shot an 83 and Shelly Minix, Amy Cline and McLane Farr shot 88, 89 and 94, respectively.  Lindsay Jones and Joy Carter, playing individually, shot 97 and 99.

The second round will be played Friday.
