Campbellsville and Cumberland University traded goals in regulation,
but neither could find the net in two overtimes as the Lady Tigers and
Lady Bulldogs tied 1-1 Tuesday afternoon.
Laura Swencki, a senior from Lebanon, Ky., scored with four minutes to
go in the first half and Cumberland's Helena Dimantas Farias scored
with 10 minutes gone in the second half for the game's only scores.
Cumberland had one more (13-12) shot on goal for the game, but Campbellsville kept the pressure on in the second overtime when it had three decent shots to win in sudden death.
"We controlled the game from a time-of-possession standpoint, but we didn't get in the back of the net," said a visibly disappointed coach
Thom Jones.
Swencki's goal was from point-blank range, but Farias booted her's in from 30 yards out.
The tie moved Campbellsville to 3-2-1 on the season. Cumberland is 2-3-1.
The Lady Tigers host Asbury at 4:00 on Thursday. Asbury's women are 3-4 after a lost Saturday to Indiana Wesleyan, but they had won three straight prior to that.
