Sixth-ranked Georgetown College took the upper hand in the Mid-South Conference volleyball race, beating Campbellsville University, 3-0, Tuesday in Alumni Gymnasium in Georgetown, Ky.
Georgetown collected two-thirds of its 75 points off kills, led by Erica Janszen's 16 and Alexandra Bertke's 10.
Shannon Cahill led Campbellsville with half of the Lady Tigers' kills - 16.
Campbellsville battled Georgetown throughout the match, tying up the score midway through each set, but Georgetown pulled away for the three-set victory (25-22, 25-21, 25-22).
Campbellsville tied the first set 12-12, before Georgetown went on a four-point run to stretch its lead to take the first set. In the second set, the CU Tigers were within a point, 12-11, before another four-point run by Georgetown helped put the set away. The third set was the only time Campbellsville led in the match, taking the lead three times. The maroon Tigers led 19-16 before the Georgetown Tigers rallied and regained the lead, 22-21, with a kill by Janszen.
Forty-five of Georgetown's 50 kills came off assists by Amy Philpot.
Caroline Martin set up 26 of Campbellsville's kills. Amy Barmore led the Georgetown defense with 13 digs, while
Jovana Koprivicia, Cahill and Martin each had nine for Campbellsville.
Campbellsville (11-3, 2-1) returns home Thursday to host Pikeville College at 7 p.m.
