Tigers lose shooting eye, lose to Georgetown 90-70

Box Score Campbellsville had a perception problem in Georgetown Saturday night. Sometimes the basket looked as big as a wash bucket and at other times a thimble as CU fell to the home team in the Andrew Baker Elswick Memorial Tournament, 90-70.

Campbellsville was about as hot as any team could be on Friday, hitting five early 3s and ending the game 13-24 from behind the arc. Early Saturday they were the Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight. The Tigers did end the first half 5-16 from 3, four coming late by Brandon Williams and Monie Hudson.

Even so, the Tigers cut a 15-point lead to three, 29-26, with about five minutes to go in the half only to let Georgetown score 10 of the next 14 points and trail, 39-30, after 20 minutes.

But after the half, Georgetown used a couple of turnovers and an offensive foul to pull out to a 47-30 lead that the Tigers never really threatened.

Georgetown used its power inside, hitting only one 3 in the game, to construct its lead. The game was a non-conference matchup, as the teams will meet again at least twice the remainder of the season.

Campbellsville was led in scoring by Shawn Savage. Savage, Hudson and Williams were all named to the all-tournament team. Hudson had 17 points and Williams added 16.

Georgetown (4-0) got 22 points from post man Maurice Pearson. Only two other players reached double figures as GU had everyone who dressed scored.

Campbellsville (1-1) will get a chance to improve its record when it faces Trevecca Nazarene Friday at 7:00 at Lindsey Wilson.
