Tigers use sharp shooting to blow out Tech, 95-55

Box Score MONTGOMERY, W. Va. - The Tigers were unconscious in West Virginia on Saturday afternoon, hitting 16 of 35 3-pointers, and raced past West Virginia Tech, 95-55.

The looniest 3-point shooters of the bunch were Shawn Savage (6-9) and Reggie Smith (5-11) as CU sank 12 3s out of 17 first-half field goals and led at the break 49-21. They continued to pour it on after intermission and improved to 9-4, 3-1. Tech falls to 5-4, 1-2.

"Taking 35 3s is one thing, but when you hit them like we did it changed the whole complexion of the game," said coach Keith Adkins. "It wasn't necessarily in our game plan, but I'm glad we got it done."

But more than the scoring, Adkins was really pleased by his team's defense. The Tigers held the nation's top offensive team to 55 points.

"It's slowly taking shape," said Adkins. "We're learning to play defense the way we need to to win in the conference."

Campbellsville broke out to a 28-13 lead and continued to dazzle offensively to lead 49-21 at the break. Tech got as close as 24 in the second half, but it was all Tigers the rest of the way.

Shawn Savage and Reggie Smith led four players in double figures with 26 each. Brett Crittenden and Adrain Whelan had 10 and 11 points, respectively. Smith had 11 boards to complete his second straight double-double after coming eligible at the end of the first semester.

"He changes us," said Adkins. "When you have a post player who can also step out and hit the three it opens the middle up for us to get offensive rebounds. And the Tigers had 12 in the game while out-rebounding a much taller Tech team 44-31.

Caleb Harris and Savage had five assists each.

Campbellsville returns to action Monday, Jan. 3 when it hosts Union University at 7:00 in the Powell Athletic Center.
