Campbellsville's women secured at least a tie for the regular season Mid-South Conference title on Saturday by defeating St. Catharine in Springfield, 88-75. But it wasn't a pretty win.

"We're just not mentally where we need to be," said a disappointed coach Ginger Colvin. "We played poorly and thank goodness we have the bench we do or we may not have won this game."



It was a far cry from the 112-52 pasting the Lady Tigers put on the Lady Patriots in early February  when St. Catharine had only six players available because of injuries. The Lady Patriots had seven on Saturday as five players continue to nurse injuries. Nevertheless, it was a promising return to a little better shooting eye, at least from the field, for CU after a 33 percent team performance (20 percent from 3) against Lindsey Wilson on Thursday night.

CU (27-1, 12-0 MSC) broke away from a five-point deficit eight minutes into the game and after a 10-0 run had a 21-16 lead that they never relinquished. The Lady Tigers went on another run of 22-10 during an eight-minute span that gave them a 38-26 lead with two minutes to go in the half. The Lady Tigers shot 47 percent for the half and 46 percent for the game. They continued to struggle from long range, however, hitting 2 of 7 in the first half and 5 of 14 for the game for 36 percent.

Alexia Williams came off the bench for eight first-half points and three rebounds. Campbellsville got plus minutes in the half from its reserves who scored 30 of the 45 points. When Millie Deason hit a shot with a little more than 12 minutes in the game, the Lady Tigers led 65-41. But St. Catharine wouldn't go away.

SCC's Erin Rogers canned a 3 with five minutes to go that cut the lead to 74-57. The Lady Patriots cut the lead to 12, but that was as close as it would get. Rogers led all scorers with 27 points, hitting five 3s.

"Our bench played with the energy I'd like to see our starters have," said Colvin." I can't say enough for Kristi Ensminger, Corin Dunn, Alexia Williams and Mackenzie Lee."

The Lady Patriots won the rebounding battle 39-37.

Whitney Ballinger led five players in double figures with 20. Williams and Dunn had 11, Ensminger 10 and Lee 12.

The Lady Tigers finish the home portion of their season on Thursday when they host University of the Cumberlands. It will be Senior Night for Kristi Ensminger and Shabree Hunter. Game-time is 6 p.m.
