Campbellsville came out swinging and shutout Lindsey Wilson in Mid-South volleyball, 3-0, Tuesday in Columbia.
"I'm really proud of them," said coach Amy Eckenfels. "I could tell in practice yesterday that they had a little sharper edge. They were more excited and really wanted to win."
The Tigers won 25-18, 25-20 and 24-14.
In game one,
Audrey Sanders served five straight service points to give her team a 14-6 cushion and Lindsey never got closer than four points the rest of the way.
Shannon Cahill, who led the team with 13 kills on the night, smacked down a couple late to sew up the first game.
In game two, CU broke open a 2-2 tie, went up 6-4 and never trailed in the game. Cahill had kills that gave the Tigers leads of 18-13, 20-15 and 22-15.
Genevieve Collette and
Samantha James combined for a block that gave CU the 22-15 lead.
"It was the best blocking night we've had," said assistant coach
Billy Gregory as he looked over a pile of stat sheets.
Caroline Martin recorded 30 assists in the three games and Martin and Sanders had 12 and 11 digs, respectively.
The Tigers were never threatened in game three. After taking a 5-2 lead, the Tigers scored six of the next seven points to lead 10-4. They pushed that to 15-5 before closing out the match by a nine-point margin.
"I don't know if it was because it was our first conference game or a rival," said Eckenfels, "But the girls really took it too them in the third set."
Campbellsville moves to 6-1 (2-0) and Lindsey falls to 2-9 (0-1).
Campbellsville travels to Georgetown tomorrow night to take on the once-defeated Georgetown College Tigers (8-1, 1-0).
