Campbellsville University volleyball was unable to build off
a close set to challenge rival Georgetown College on the road Wednesday. The
Lady Tigers lost in three sets (25-23, 25-22, 25-12) en route to their first
Mid-South Conference loss of the season.
Campbellsville battled to a 25-23 Georgetown win in the first set, collecting
13 kills to Georgetown's 17. The second set was still close, as the Lady Tigers
fell only by three points, 25-22. However, set three saw a drop in play for
Campbellsville, which had nine attack errors.
"They took us out of element in the third game, starting with our serve
reception," CU head coach Amy Eckenfels said. "We made unforced errors all
match and made it easy for them. I'm upset with our play, but also know that we
have not reached our potential. I am confident in our team, and know we will be
a better team when we meet them again."
Forty-five percent of Georgetown's points came off
Campbellsville errors, as CU gave up 19 points on misplayed attacks, six on
serves and five on serve receptions.
Samantha James had the best hitting percentage for CU (.375), but only four kills,
while Monica Chernichan led all players with a double-double 12 kills and 10
digs. Audrey Sanders also had 10 digs for Campbellsville. Emily Weber led
Georgetown with 11 kills, while Kalya Welch and Alyssa Elmore each had nine.
Senior setter Caroline Martin assisted 23 of Campbellsville's 30 kills, while
Georgetown's Elizabeth Goodin had 38.
