Mandel hat trick leads Campbellsville to 3-1 victory

Box Score Kelsey Mandel recorded the second collegiate hat trick of her career Thursday, as Campbellsville University women's soccer evened its record on the year (3-3) with a 3-1 win at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn.

The junior forward from Louisville, Tenn., put Campbellsville on the board in the 10th minute, scoring off an assist from Megan Campbell. Mandel forced her second goal off the keeper's hands in the 19th minute to give the Lady Tigers a 2-0 lead. Cumberland answered quickly with an unassisted goal by Helena Diman Farias from 20 yards out to cut the Lady Tigers' lead back to a goal, 2-1, before halftime.

Cumberland outshot the Lady Tigers in the first half, as freshman goalkeeper Brandie Hagerman had eight saves for Campbellsville. She finished the game with 12 saves and her third college victory. Campbellsville had only four shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.

"We came out slow the first half. We were still feeling the effects from the Lindsey game, but second half, we came out strong and played our style of soccer," CU head coach Thom Jones said. "I'm very proud of Kelsey's hat trick. She worked hard in the game and finished every opportunity. She deserved it."

Four of Mandel's five shots in the game were on target. She closed her scoring with her third goal, assisted by Ashley Corum, in the 52nd minute.

Campbellsville (3-3) will host Trevecca Nazarene University in a non-conference game at Finley Stadium on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
