Sophomore golfer Katie White is picking up right where she left off in the spring, as one of the top golfers in the Mid-South Conference. The Canadian helped lead Campbellsville University to a first-place finish Thursday after round one of the Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament at The Pines in Columbia, Ky.





White had six of her team's 10 birdies as she shot a 74 on the day to tie for the individual lead with Lindsey Wilson's Kelsey Joselyn. The pair have a three stroke lead over University of the Cumberlands golfer Emma Burman and a four stroke lead over Georgetown College's Lauren Kohake. White also led all golfers on par 5 holes, finishing three under.

Campbellsville leads all teams after 18 holes with a team score of 319. That's an eight stroke lead above host team Lindsey Wilson College, which sits in second with a 327. Cumberlands is third at 331 and Georgetown fourth at 336.

"I'm so excited for them. We are so young, and have such great potential. I am pleased with our efforts but know that there are still several strokes left out there," CU head coach Lindsey Hines said. "Only better things are to come from this group of young ladies. This team has such great chemistry. They aren't just playing for themselves but for their teammates and their school. It's a good day to be a Lady Tiger."

Following White's lead for Campbellsville is Kaela Smith, who is in fifth place individually after shooting an 80 in the first round. She finished an even par on 11 of the holes Thursday, tied for the most pars in the tournament so far. Kayla Kincer is eighth overall and third for the Lady Tigers with an 82, while Lauren Goodin and Amy Cline each shot an 83 to sit tied for 11th.

The tournament is one of two events that determine the regular season MSC champion. Campbellsville tied for the 2009-10 championship with both Cumberlands and Lindsey Wilson, as the Blue Raiders won the fall event in Campbellsville last year.

Play will resume Friday with an 18-hole final round.
