Katie White fired a second-round 78 to help her Lady Tiger teammates
squeak out a first-ever Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament Title.
White (Prince Edward Island, Canada) was named medalist of the two-day
tournament (74-78) held at The Pines in Columbia, Ky., home course of
Lindsey Wilson.
"This is a first for me as coach," said a happy Lindsay Hines. "We played well, but more importantly we stayed focused even though we hit some shots down the home stretch that were not right on point."
Campbellsville held an eight-stroke lead after the first day and had to win a tiebreaker against Lindsey to earn the team title.
"This year's team is finally starting to understand course management. It was certainly a good day to be a Lady Tiger."
Campbellsville and Lindsey Wilson tied with 646 strokes after regulation, but round scores of 172 for Lindsey Wilson and 170 for Campbellsville were added to give the Lady Tigers the tournament win. Campbellsville won the tiebreaker where the total score for all 5 players was included in the total.
White got ample support from Elizabethtown. Ky. senior
Kaela Smith who shot nearly identical 80s for a 160 total. She was followed by
Kayla Kincer (Elizabethtown), 164 (82-82);
Lauren Goodin (Columbia, Ky.) and
Amy Cline (Scottsville, Ky.), 170 (83-87).
Campbellsville had individual golfers to finish as well. Meleigha Pollock, playing in her first collegiate tournament, shot 165 (83-82); followed by:
Jordan Johnson, 175 (86-89);
Lindsay Harris, 179 (86-93);
McLane Farr, 181 (90-91); and
Joy Carter, 189 (92-97).
Lindsey's Kelsey Joslyn fired a 154 (74-80) to take second place in the individual-title hunt.
Final team results were: Campbellsville, 646 (319-329); Lindsey Wilson, 646 (327-319); University of the Cumberlands, 654 (331-323); Georgetown, 675 (336-339); Cumberland University, 679 (343-336); St. Catharine, 786 (405-381); and Pikeville, 848 (436-412).
