Campbellsville University blew past St. Catharine College on Tuesday for its third Mid-South Conference volleyball victory of the season, 3-0. The Lady Tigers won the first set, 25-15, before powering their way to a 25-8 win in the second set and closing the match with a 25-17 third set victory.
Caroline Martin served Campbellsville to a 9-0 start in the second set, including five service aces to set the tone in the middle of the match. Martin, who had 14 set assists through two games, was replaced with Lillian DaSilva as the starting setter in the third set. DaSilva, a junior from Brazil, assisted 14 of Campbellsville's 16 kills in the third set and finished the match with 17 assists.
Campbellsville closed off its first set with a kill by
Samantha James, who led all hitters with 10 kills. She also had two solo blocks and two assisted blocks.
Shannon Cahill, who was named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week on Monday, had nine kills and eight digs in the match. She led Campbellsville in the third set with five kills, while Jams had five in the first set.
Monica Chernichan came off the bench in each set to collect a total of seven kills in the match. Florida native
Lexis Lloyd led the defense at libero with 11 digs.
CU reduced its attacking errors to only 11 in the match.
Campbellsville (10-3, 3-1 MSC) travels to Pikeville College on Saturday, Sept. 25 for a tri-match with Pikeville and West Virginia Tech. Matches begin at noon and 2 p.m. ET.
