Campbellsville University men's golf showed improvement
Friday in the final round of the Bill Sergent Invitational at Crooked Creek
Golf Course. The Tigers shaved nine strokes off their score from the previous
day to shoot 298 as a team for the third lowest round Friday fifth lowest of
the tournament.
However, the 298 was coupled with a Thursday score of 307 to give
Campbellsville a fifth-place finish after sitting in ninth Thursday evening.
"We played pretty good both days, but
really good on day two. We came on strong, and I'm impressed with them," CU
head coach Kenny Lawson said.
Lee University won the tournament with a two-day score of 582, while Lindsey Wilson
College shot the low round for the tournament Friday with a 286 and finished
second at 584. The Blue Raiders moved up from seventh to finish runner-up. Host
school, the University of the Cumberlands shot a consistent 299 each day to
finish third at 598, while Walters State Junior College was fourth at 603 and
CU shot 605.
Tanner Mobley led the Tigers with an even par, 72, finish Friday to finish tied
for 12th at 147. Quinn Cole was second for CU with a 152, while Trey
Shirley, Cory Prewitt and Logan Griffin each tied at 39th with a
two-day score of 155.
Campbellsville will travel next week, Sept. 13-14, to the Mid-South Conference
Fall Tournament at Dale Hollow State Park in Burkesville, Ky.
