CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University cruised to 5-1 in the Mid-South Conference with a three-set win over the University of Pikeville on Tuesday in Powell Athletic Center.
Campbellsville powered away from a narrow 16-13 lead to win the first set 25-16, led by five kills from Shannon Cahill. The Lady Tigers rolled past the Bears in the second set, 25-11, and closed the match in the third set, 25-14. CU kept the Bears close in the third set with attack and service errors, but broke away from a 9-8 score with a six-point run to create some distance, 15-8.
Cahill led CU with 11 kills, giving her 22 on the week so far. Monica Chernichan and nine kills, while Genevieve Collette and Samantha James each had eight. Audrey Sanders had 13 digs to lead the defense and also had four aces. Lilian DaSilva and Jacke Schwieger had 19 and 15 assists, respectively.
Earlier in the day, Campbellsville moved back into the receiving votes category in the NAIA Coaches' Poll as the highest ranked MSC team.
Campbellsville (12-8, 5-1 MSC) will travel to No. 5 Lee University for its first Top 5 matchup of the season Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. ET.
