CLEVELAND, Tenn. - They say statistics are just numbers, but for Lady Tiger Volleyball no matter how you added them up Thursday night they spelled a 3-0 defeat at the hands of No. 5 Lee University, 17-25, 16-25 and 20-25.
The 15-2 Lee Lady Flames had 19 more kills (34-53), 23 more assists (27-50) and an attack percentage advantage of .191 to .460.
Campbellsville used the match as a bridge between Cleveland and its next stop, Savannah, Ga. on Oct. 15-16, where it will play Bethel (1:00) and Union University (3:00) tomorrow during the first day of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Tournament.
CU led only four times in the match, at 1-0 in all three sets and at 6-5 in the third. But it's not like the Lady Tigers have been avoiding competition. In the last seven days they have played four teams ranked in the top 25.
In the first, the Lady Tigers dug themselves a 6-13 hole, and forced a Lee timeout at 14-18 before the Lady Flames won seven of the next 10 points.
In the second, Lee stretch a 6-8 advantage to 8-13 and never looked back in pulling away.
Campbellsville (12-9, 5-1) took that 6-5 lead in the third only to watch it evaporate into a 6-11 deficit. A service error by Lee allowed CU to slip within 17-20.
Lee's Christa Hutherson had 14 kills in the match.
Genevieve Collette registered nine kills and was followed by
Samantha James,
Monica Chernichan and
Laura DeGear with seven, six and five, respectively.
Jackie Schwieger (12) and Lilian DeSilva (14) shared 26 assists.
The Lady Tigers' next home match in Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6:00 when Trevecca comes to town.
