CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- It was a near point-for-point battle the entire night, as Campbellsville University fell short of the Mid-South Conference West Division title in a five-set loss to Georgetown College (25-19, 26-28, 25-23, 18-25, 13-15) Tuesday at Powell Athletic Center.
 

The loss puts Campbellsville in a two-way tie for second-place in the MSC with Georgetown. Due to tiebreak rules, CU will be the No. 2 seed in the Mid-South Conference Tournament, which begins Friday in Frankfort, Ky.

"We played hard but made errors when it counted the most," CU head coach Amy Eckenfels said. "We did not get the seed we wanted to go into the tournament but are looking forward to competing in the MSC tournament this weekend."

Campbellsville took sets one and three, while Georgetown won a close second set and pulled away with a seven-point fourth set win. In the fifth set, Georgetown led 8-7 at the midway point before pulling out a 15-13 win off errors by CU.

Samantha James and Laura DeGear led Campbellsville in the match with 13 kills each, while Monica Chernichan had 10. James had instrumental kills in each set. In the first set, she gave the Lady Tigers a 21-15 lead. In the second set, she pulled the Lady Tigers within a point, 20-19, on a block and gave CU a 25-24 lead with a kill and ace. James also scored the winning point for CU in the third set. DeGear had several key kills to end Georgetown rallies or avoid one from starting.

Defensively, Audrey Sanders had 25 digs and Caitlin Dresing had 18. Dresing and James also had three aces. Lilian DaSilva had 29 assists and Jackie Schweiger had 21.


The Lady Tigers' next game will be Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m., as they host Indiana University Southeast for Senior Night at Powell Athletic Center.
