OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - Campbellsville moved into the semi-finals of the NCCAA Mid-East Region Volleyball Tournament today, winning three- and five-set matches to cop the No. 1 seed in Pool B.
The wins, 25-9, 25-12 and 25-12 over Tennessee Temple, and 15-25, 24-26, 25-14, 25-23 and 15-12 over host Oakland City, boosts the Lady Tigers into a Friday match at noon against Pool A runner-up, Trevecca Nazarene (19-14).
Against Tennessee Temple, the Lady Tigers were led by
Genevieve Collette's 14 kills. She got ample support from
Monica Chernichan (7),
Kelly Moyer (6) and
Samantha James (5).
Giselle Hernandez dropped in four aces and
Lilian DaSilva and
Caitlin Dresing has three each. DaSilva had 25 assists and
Jackie Schwieger 11. Digs were spread out.
Audrey Sanders had eight and James seven. Hernandez had five and Schwieger and Dresing four each.
Against Oakland City, CU had to rally from a two-set deficit. They did it on the backs of the Canadian Connection - Collette and Chernichan - who had 22 and 20 kills, respectively. James had seven kills,
Shannon Cahill five and Moyer four.
Sanders' 28 digs led the team as Dresing collected 18 and Cahill 13. DaSilva had 38 assists and Schwieger 19. Sanders had five services aces.
Campbellsville (23-14) played without the services of its leading blocker,
Laura DeGear, who did not travel because of illness.
If the Lady Tigers advance beyond Friday's morning match, they will play the winner of the Asbury (40-7) - Oakland City (21-5) match at 2:30. CU has played Trevecca three times this season, losing a five-setter in early September then beating the Trojans in four sets Sept. 16 and 3-0 at home on Oct. 18.
