CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville punctuated its third game in four days with a 85-50 win over Berea Tuesday night in the Powell Athletic Center, running its record to 6-1, 1-0 MSC.
With former All-American
Whitney Ballinger sitting in with radio announcer
Jay Turner, the Lady Tigers provided some fodder for her color commentary.
It could have been the 29 turnovers in which CU forced the Lady Mountaineers.
"That's been a point of interest," said Assistant Coach
Miranda Denney, sitting in for the second straight night due to
Ginger Colvin's respiratory infection. " That's one of the things we focus on. We know if we can turn our opponents over then that creates a lot of our offense."
The Lady Tigers built a 29-7 lead through the first 12 minutes of the game and never really looked back. It marked the fourth loss to a MSC foe for Berea (0-9). The Lady Mountaineers were unfortunately short a few players due with injury.
"We scouted their game with Lindsey and they were in it until close to the end," offered Denney.
CU's bench came in and outscored Berea 33-26 and, again, the Lady Tigers commanded the paint with 42 points to 16b for Berea.
"We are really pleased with our bench right now. Keisha (Compton) and Chelsea (Craig) are starting to find their games."
Courtney Clifton led four players in double figures with 14.
Mackenzie Lee added 12 and
Katie Allen and Compton had 10 each. Allen added six assists to her stat line as the Lady Tigers posted a 21-assist night.
After a 17-17 stalemate on the boards in the first half, CU imposed itself in the second half, winning that battle 29-17 after the break.
Megan Isaacs had eight boards to lead the team.
Campbellsville improved its free throw shooting, canning 20 of 23 for 84 percent and hit 45 percent of its shots from the field to 33 percent shooting for Berea.
The Lady Tigers are home Saturday when they play No. 18 ranked Columbia (Mo.) College. Tipoff will be at 5:30 and the game will be broadcast over university radio (88.7). A link for listening on the computer can be found at www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
