CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- For the sixth straight season, a group of Campbellsville University seniors closed out the final home game of their career with a victory over Indiana University Southeast in Powell Athletic Center. This year, it was a three-set win (25-15, 25-18, 25-16) for seniors
Shannon Cahill,
Monica Chernichan,
Genevieve Collette,
Lilian DaSilva and
Samantha James. The victory avenged a season-opening, five-set loss at IUS.
Each of the five seniors collected a kill in the first set Thursday and remained fairly balanced through the night.
Leading CU was junior
Laura DeGear, who collected the first point of the match and finished the night with 10 kills. Chernichan, Cahill, James and Collette had nine, eight, six and five, respectively.
Campbellsvile used an eight-point run in the first set to flip a 7-4 deficit into a 12-5 lead.
Audrey Sanders gave CU an 8-7 lead in the run with her first of two aces in the match. The Lady Tigers closed out the set on a 7-2 run.
The Lady Tigers broke away in the second set with a seven-point run, including two aces by James. In the third set, CU stretched its lead to a 10-point margin, 24-14, with a kill by
Tara Robertson.
Campbellsville (20-13) will return to the court Saturday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. ET against St. Catharine College in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament at the Frankfort Civic Center. The winner of the match will advance to the MSC semifinals at 6 p.m. ET.
