Lady Tigers fall at Georgetown, 65-52

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Campbellsville University dug itself into a hole early and was unable to climb out in a 65-52 loss at Georgetown College Saturday. The loss ended a seven-game win streak for CU in the rivalry and was the first time the Lady Tigers suffered back-to-back losses in the Mid-South Conference since the last MSC games of 2007-08.

CU shot 13.33 percent from the floor in the first half, going into a scoring drought in its third trip down the floor.

Mary Jehlik gave the Lady Tigers a 3-2 lead on their second possession of the game. The basket proved to be the only points for the 6-foot-3 post player and the only lead for the No. 8 Lady Tigers. Megan Isaacs put a temporary hold to the drought, connecting on 1-of-2 free throws on CU's 10th possession of the game, but the Lady Tigers were silent from the floor for seven minutes. Katie Allen, who led all scorers with 13 points, hit a 3 with 12:33 left in the opening half to pull within a point, 8-7. CU would get no closer.

Georgetown slowly stretched its lead into a 30-14 margin at halftime.

The maroon and gray worked Georgetown's lead down to 12 points multiple times in the first 15 minutes of the second half, but did not find a break until less than five minutes to play. Allen forced a steal and scored on the other end with an assist from Hayley Hellyer to pull within 10 points, 54-44, for the first time since early in the first half.

Allen scored six points in a one-minute stretch to pull within six points, 54-48, with 3:45 remaining. The game remained locked at a six-to-eight-point lead until Georgetown pulled away with free throws in the final minute.

A total of 43 personal fouls were called in the game between the two teams resulting in 53 free throw attempts. The two teams combined for 59 turnovers, with CU collecting 30.

Both teams struggled from behind the arc in the game, with Campbellsville shooting 2-of-8 and Georgetown going scoreless on eight attempts.

Campbellsville (7-3, 1-2 MSC) will return home to Powell Athletic Center next weekend, Dec. 9-10, to host No. 1 Azusa Pacific University and No. 6 Bethel University in the Citizens Bank and Trust Classic. CU will host Azusa Friday at 6 p.m. ET and will play Bethel Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
