CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville had to win the second game of a
double header on Thursday afternoon to split with St. Catharine. The
Lady Patriots won the first game 7-6 and the Lady Tigers scored three
runs in the bottom of the sixth of game two for a 9-6 win.
Campbellsville (7-16, 1-3) had a chance in the first game after
Jennifer England's two-run homer brought the Lady Tigers to within 7-6, but they could not put another runner on base.
SCC led 5-2 after five and scored two more runs in the top of the seventh to go up 7-2, a hole too deep for the Lady Tigers to dig out.
CU had 11 hits in the game to 13 by St. Catharine. Clemmons had a single,
Kacie Vincent two singles,
Morgan Bullock one hit and
Jordan Cornett two. England also had a triple and two singles to go with her homer.
Courtney Turpin took the loss, pitching five innings and relinquishing five earned runs on 10 hits.
Taylor Wroe gave up the final two runs in relief, allowing three hits.
In game two, England had another nice game at the plate with two hits (a homer and a single) - knocking in three runs.
Natalie Duncan had a hit and a RBI,
Bailey Dillender a single and double and an RBI. Bullock had a solo home run and Cornett had a single and a double with an RBI.
CU out-hit SCC 10 to 7 and three errors by the Lady Patriots contributed to Campbellsville's success.
Martina Riney started in the circle and went five innings, but Wroe picked up the win as she faced six batters and did not allow any to reach base.
The Lady Tigers return to the diamond on Saturday when they host Madonna and Montreat in the CU-LWC Classic. First game starts at 11:30 and the second game at 1:30 at Veterans Memorial Park.
