CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -
Alyssa Barker hadn't gotten a hit all day, but she was on the business end of a three-run seventh inning Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park that punctuated a 7-6 come-from-behind win and a two-game split with Reinhardt.
The Lady Tigers had just relinquished a three-spot to the Eagles after giving them two extra outs in the top of the sixth for a 6-4 Reinhardt lead.
Bailey Dillender, who had four hits on the day, opened the seventh with a single. With
Nicole Bohanon running in her place,
Jennifer England drew a walk.
Kara Reece pinch ran for England and coach Shannon Wathan asked
Natalie Duncan to sacrifice. The throw was wide of first and Bohanon scored and Reece and Duncan ended up on third and second.
After
Jordan Cornett, who was moved up in the order after a two-hit first game, hit a sacrifice fly to right that scored the tying run, Barker, a freshman from Frankfort, Ky., delivered her game winner. She laid down a short bunt that scored Duncan before Reinhardt could make a play at first.
The split moves CU to 9-18, 1-3 on the season as they prepare for a road trip to West Virginia Tech on Tuesday.
Dillender had two RBI in the second game with two singles and a double.
Alex Jane Clemmons had two singles and
Kacie Vincent, Duncan and Cornett all hit safely.
Campbellsville scored one run in the first without getting a hit. In a two-run third, Clemmons and Vincent singled and both scored when Dillender hit into a two-base error. The Lady Tigers added a run in the fifth when Cornett's single plated Dillender, who had doubled.
Courtney Turpin picked up the win with seven innings of nine-hit pitching, stranding eight Reinhardt runners. Campbellsville left seven runners on base itself.
In game two, the Lady Tigers could not stand prosperity. After trailing 3-2 they were able to tie the game in the fifth with an RBI double by Duncan. But CU immediately relinquished the lead when Turpin got in trouble by allowing a leadoff double and hitting a batter.
Cornett hit a solo home run in the sixth to close the gap to 4-3, but the Lady Tigers could not capitalize on an England single with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
CU had nine hits and left eight runners on the base paths in the first game. Vincent, Dillender and
Morgan Bullock all singled and Clemmons homered. Duncan had a double and Cornett added a single to go along with her home run.
Turpin relieved started
Martina Riney in the fifth but took the loss with Reinhardt's two-run sixth. Riney allowed six hits in her four innings of work.
Campbellsville won't be at home again until April 2 when it hosts Shawnee State.
