Lady Tigers rap 30 hits in sweep of St. Catharine

ST. CATHARINE, Ky. - Campbellsville University rapped out 30 hits in an afternoon double header against St. Catharine College and extended the Lady Tigers' win streak to seven games with 16-7 and 7-5 wins.

Becca Cook, Morgan Bullock and Alex Jane Clemmons accounted for 10 runs in the first game as Cook hit a grand slam homer in the fifth and Clemmons and Bullock cranked out three-run shots in the the second and seventh innings, respectively, to keep the Lady Patriots at bay.

St. Catharine crept to within 6-5 after four innings before Cook's tater gave the Lady Tigers a five-run cushion.

Kacie Vincent, Natalie Duncan, Jordan Cornett and Jennifer England all had two-hit games - all singles. Bailey Dillender reached on a single. Clemmons and Bullock had singles to go with their homers, and Cook had two more safeties.

Courtney Turpin recorded the win, but accepted relief in the fifth and re-entered in the seventh and set the Lady Patriots down after allowing a one-out double. St. Catharine, which stranded 11 runners, had its lead-off batter on base in the first six innings. Turpin allowed 10 hits, fanned four and walked three. Riney struck out three in her 1 2/3 innings.

Turpin pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth when she coaxed a fly ball to center. After Turpin allowed two runs in the fifth and loaded the bases, Riney came in and got CU (15-18, 7-3) out of the inning with a soft liner to Dillender, who turned it into an unassisted double play.

Riney, who pitched the full seven innings of game two, allowed the leadoff  batter on base six out her seven innings of work, but she stranded eight potential runs. SCC loaded the bases in the first only to have Riney strike out three straight to end the threat.

Campbellsville did all its damage in the first three innings, scoring one, two and four runs, respectively. SCC closed the gap to 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh but three fly balls ended the Lady Patriots' threat.

England had a solo homer in the first and then Brooke Boils sacrificed Cornett home in the second. In the third, CU came up with seven hits in its four-run frame - all singles.

Cornett, England, Clemmons, Dillender and Bullock all had two-hit games, and Natalie Duncan slapped three singles to punctuate a five-hit day. Boils and Cook both reached on singles.

Clemmons and Cook had five RBI on the day and Bullock four.

The Lady Tigers travel to Lindsey Wilson on Thursday to face the Blue Raiders (25-4, 6-0) in a double header with a 5 p.m. first-game start.
