CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Campbellsville University men's golf knocked two stroke off its score from the previous day, but remained in seventh place Tuesday at the Lee University Spring Invitational.
Senior golfer Logan Griffin and Cory Prewitt both lowered their score Tuesday to lead CU with a 76, while Scott Foster posted a 78 for the second day. Trey Shirley finished the tournament with the lowest score for CU with a two-day total of 153, but fell from the Top 9 individually after shooting 79 Tuesday. He finished tied for 16th and was joined in the Top 20 by Prewitt, who shot 78 and 76 for a two-day total of 154.
Fellow Mid-South Conference school University of the Cumberlands won the tournament by four strokes over Shorter University, 586 to 590. Shorter's Arvid Bengtsson was first-day medalist with an impressive five-under 67. He remained in the lead Tuesday after shooting 70 to finish 7 under. Aaron Watkins was two strokes off the lead at -5.
Griffin lowered his score from an 81 on Monday. CU's fifth golfer Quinn Cole, who shot 87 Monday but improved with an 80 Tuesday. Brandon Collier also made the trip and finished 39th as an unattached individual. He shot 83 and 77 in his two rounds.
Besides Cumberlands and Shorter this is the way the tournament field rounded out: Lee (305-294 - 599) Reinhardt (301-302 - 603), Southern Wesleyan (302-308 - 610), Thomas (310-302 - 612), Campbellsville (311-309 - 620), Lindsey Wilson (322-305 - 627), Lee B (322-306 - 628), Shorter B (320-313 - 633), Faulkner (319-DNF), Faulkner B (321-DNF), Truett McConnell (331-DNF).
Campbellsville returns to action March 14-15 at the Rome News-Tribune Invitational, hosted at the Stonebridge Country Club in Rome, Ga.
