CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Lady Tigers celebrated Senior Day in a big way Sunday, using seven home runs in a two-game sweep of Georgetown, 10-2, 4-3.
Campbellsville ( 29-21, 19-6 MSC) pounded six homers in the six-inning first-game win, the big one coming in the bottom of the first off the bat of junior
Jordan Cornett. It turned out to be the only runs
Martina Riney would need as the freshman set Georgetown down on a seven-hitter. After a three-hit Georgetown first inning, Riney did not allow more than one hit in any one inning the rest of the way.
Since a 3-2 loss to Reinhardt on March 20 the Lady Tigers have rebounded for 20 wins in their last 23 starts, 17-3 in conference play.
Cornett's blast came after senior
Alex Jane Clemmons singled and
Kacie Vincent reached on a error.
Jennifer England reached when she was hit by a pitch and with two outs Cornett picked up her third four-bagger of the year and fourth of her career.
Becca Cook and England had solo homers in the second and third innings, respectively, and in the fourth Clemmons and
Bailey Dillender went yard. England narrowly missed a homer in the sixth as her shot to left caromed back into the field of play. But her double plated Vincent for the inning-shortened game. Clemmons led off the sixth with her second home run of the game.
Clemmons had a three-hit game and England and Cook two hits apiece.
In game two, CU went ahead 2-1 in the fourth when seniors
Morgan Bullock and
Stephanie Weathers set the table for a
Brooke Boils RBI single. Bullock singled and Weathers moved her to second with a bunt.
After Georgetown (25-13, 16-5 MSC) scored twice in the top of the sixth to go up 3-2, the Lady Tigers again called on Clemmons for some heroics. The senior hit her third homer of the afternoon to tie the game and then in the bottom of the eighth, Bullock's liner to left scored
Natalie Duncan who had reached on an error, was bunted to second by Cornett and reached third on a passed ball.
Courtney Turpin went 7 1/3 innings before seeing relief from Riney with one out in the eighth. Before she left, Turpin allowed eight hits, struck out six and walked two.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to host Lindsey Wilson Tuesday in a double header with the first game set for 2:00.
