BARDSTOWN, Ky. -
Trey Shirley had four penalty strokes, but the CU sophomore still led the Tigers with a 76 in the opening 18 of the 54-hole Mid-South Conference Spring Tournament at Bardstown Country Club at Maywood.
Shirley trailed University of the Cumberlands' Aaron Watkins and Niclas Rigbrandt (74s) and his teammates trail Cumberlands and Lindsey Wilson in the team competition that hopefully will end Tuesday, weather permitting.
The men were to play an opening-day 36 holes, but the second 18 had not been calculated as this story was posted. Because of wet conditions, players were using lift, clean and place through the green.
Cumberlands leads the team competition (302) with Lindsey Wilson (308), Campbellsville (312) and Georgetown (317). The rest of the nine-team field was made up of St. Catharine (326), Shawnee State (348), Pikeville (350), UVa. Wise (354) and West Virginia Tech (356).
Campbellsville's
Scott Foster shot 78 and
Cory Prewitt and
Quinn Cole had 79s for the 312 total.
Logan Griffin had an 87 and
Brandon Collier, competing as an individual, shot 83.
Georgetown's Christian havens shot a 75 and Lindsey's Nicholas Navarro a 75.
