The Tigers will have plenty to work on to clean up their game. Missed serves, missed sets and missed kills punctuated the loss.
"I expected more from us," said CU Coach Amy Eckenfels "but this is the best I've seen IUS since I was a player and they had nine matches under their belts."
IUS came into the match 4-5 and on a three-match winning streak.
Eckenfels lamented her team's focus, saying that when it came down to it that mental mistakes, more than, physical, cost them the match.
Campbellsville committed 17 service errors in the match, three in the critical deciding game.
"We missed serves out of timeouts," lamented Eckenfels. "And we had so many net violations. It just shows us what we need to work on."
The Grenadiers broke away from a 4-4 tie in the fifth game when CU committed a net error and missed a put-away point. Trailing 9-6, the Tigers missed another kill opportunity and a serve to dig an 11-7 hole from which they would never recover.
In game 1, CU rallied to tie the score at 17-all and 22-all, went ahead 23-22 and dropped the final three points of the game. The Tigers tried to give the second game away after leading 18-13. IUS tied the score at 23-23 and then the Tigers took the final two points.
After an 18-18 tie in the third game, CU could never get over the hump in losing 25-22. In game four they never trailed after a 6-6 tie and won 25-21.
Shannon Cahill led the team with 15 kills, followed by 10 by
Genevieve Collette.
Kelly Moyer had five kills and led the team in attack percentage at .300. Lilian DeSilva had 27 assists to lead the team.
Jackie Schwieger added 12.
Audrey Sanders had 17 digs.
Campbellsville doesn't play again until Tuesday, Sept. 6 when Mid-South Conference foe Lindsey Wilson comes to town for a 7 p.m. matchup. Thursday's home match against Union has been postponed and is to be rescheduled for a later date.
